YOUTH MOBILIZATION AND TRAINING PROGRAM FOR RAPID RESPONSE TO DISASTER (DRR)—COVID-19

PROGRAM OUTCOMES

In overall, 450 community individuals received the training and were recognized as “DRR volunteers”. Moreover, nearly 4500 community households comprising of nearly 22000 community people aging from 16 to 40 years old were benefitted through this program as they were provided with detail knowledge regarding response; rehabilitation and recovery; prevention and mitigation; and preparation; first aid management; triage management and its imperative role in disaster management; and COVID-19 pandemic at ground level by maintaining the norms of WHO and CDC guideline. They were encouraged to work together in coordination with government as well as non-government organizations to fight against COVID-19.

PROGRAM OBJECTIVES

•To re-orient and re-train DRR teams on first aid management in line with International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) guideline.
•To re-orient and re-train DRR teams on COVID-19 and mass based application of triage method and approach to the most affected region as per guideline of CDC and WHO.
•To mobilize DRR teams in the selected clusters for conducting training and demonstration based program on first-aid management, triage management, disaster preparedness and COVID-19.
•To raise community awareness regarding first-aid management, triage management, disaster preparedness and COVID-19.
•To develop DRR volunteers from community people by providing them training and demonstration program.
•To increase the knowledge and understanding of the disaster phenomenon, its different contextual aspects, impacts and public health consequences.
•To increase skills and abilities for implementing the disaster risk reduction and disaster preparedness strategy.
•To motivate health workers and the community to work jointly and fight against this pandemic through triage management.
•To create a chain between national volunteers and organization working for disaster preparedness and fighting against COVID 19 pandemic.
•To establish an effective disaster communication network to provide speedy information and decision making during a disaster.
